Workin' on my fitness(class)

Last week I was browsing through Facebook and saw the word FREE intro to BARRE class. Naturally I signed up without doing any research and then signed all my friends up as well.

I’m really bad about that, I sign up and ask questions later. I’ve really been struggling with my work out lately. I miss running outside like a fat kid misses donuts. I miss donuts too... I digress.

So last weekend, I took my very first Barre Class. Don’t know what a Barre Class is? No worries I didn’t either.

Description:

BarreAmped is an intensive body shaping experience designed to produce reliable results, no matter the client. The method is influenced by classical and modern dance and utilizes a barre to achieve optimal positioning. Insights from Pilates, yoga, and orthopedic stretching also balance the method’s unique approach. Mat, hand towel, and all class accessories provided. Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first class.

I had no idea what I was getting into; as long as I was toning muscles and burning calories I was in.

What I thought:

The class was HARD. Like real HARD. We started the class with arms, only using 2 pound weights. OH MY WORD, hurt. Think 2 minutes of arm toning with no breaks. We did reps of slow controlled movements. Then we moved to legs. We used a small ball between our legs and did small compressions. #KILLME. We also did slow movements and then we lifted to our toes and did squats. My legs were shaking the entire time. I could not walk the next day. I highly recommend this class if you are looking to tone.

Monday night I took a HIIT CLASS. Don’t know what a HIIT Class is? I didn’t either…

Description:

HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. This method employs intervals of maximum exertion followed by intervals of recovery. This burns major calories, blasts fat, and helps to build a strong, healthy heart. In this class we combine 30 of interval training on the bike followed by 25 minutes of strength training on the floor and a 5 minute stretch. Cycling shoes, mat, hand towel, and all class accessories are provided. Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first class.

What I thought:

I’ve taken a spin class one time before years ago. I wanted to die. If I could manage to get my feet unhooked from the bike pedals I would have been out a fat kid in dodge ball. I couldn’t keep up and I felt like an idiot and I’m sure I looked like an idiot. What I loved about HIIT class is the lights were off and the music was pumping! I felt really good during this class. My legs felt really strong. I do need to work on my coordination. I was a little wobbly on the stand up sit down part. Thank goodness my feet were locked in, I’m sure I would have fallen off. We did 30 minutes on the bike. The last 30 minutes we went into a room and did strength training. #killme the girl at the desk described this class as a way to really burn calories. I was all in.My heart rate was up the entire time. This class was taught by the owner (who by the way is a perfect mixture of adorable and sassy…and is 27 yrs old) I think she really made the class fun. And she wasn’t afraid to call you out when she didn’t think you were pushing yourself.

I highly recommend this class as well.

The plan is to take their ZenCycle class and Hot Yoga class this week. (My poor hair, I’m going to look like Cece from the color purple.)

What do you do to stay fit in the winter months?

  1. "What do you do to stay fit in the winter months?" Ummm, I don't eat as many scoops of ice cream, or drink as many sangrias???
But, in all seriousness, I need to find a class like the Barre class - sounds FUN!!
